Contact TypeContact Information
Purpose and Overview
The Route 122 (North and South Main Streets) Water Main Replacement Project is designed to replace the aging water mains found along the project corridor.  This project generally consists of the replacement of approximately 9,513 linear feet of 12-inch diameter water main with associated water services, valves, fittings, and hydrants in North and South Main Streets (Route 122) from Country Squire Road to the southerly end of the Mumford River bridge crossing north of the intersection with Hartford Avenue.  The existing 12-inch diameter water main will be removed from service and the new main will be installed within the same trench.  Temporary water supply will be provided to water customers within the project limits during construction operations. Connections to the temporary water supply piping will be coordinated with each property owner and completed by the Contractor.

The water main replacement is being funded through the Massachusetts Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (SRF).  The Massachusetts Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) provides low-cost financing to help community public water suppliers comply with federal and state drinking water requirements. The DWSRF Program's goals are to protect public health and strengthen compliance with drinking water requirements, while addressing the Commonwealth's drinking water needs. The Program incorporates affordability and watershed management priorities.

The DWSRF Program is jointly administered by the Division of Municipal Services of MassDEP and the Massachusetts Water Pollution Abatement Trust (Trust). This year, MassDEP will solicit projects from Massachusetts municipalities and community water systems (with at least 15 residential connections) to be considered for subsidized loans. The current subsidy level is provided via a 2% interest loan. The Program will operate with approximately $ 100-125 million in financing annually.
