East Hartford Avenue Causeway Committee

The East Hartford Avenue Causeway Committee is charged with developing a long and a short-term strategy to alleviate the problem of safety on the East Harford Avenue Causeway, through a redesign and rebuild of the affected area.

Long term solutions will include developing design plans for improvements to the causeway. This will include potential costs for building a separate pedestrian crossing, or improvements to the existing causeway.

Design, construction, and permitting costs should all be evaluated and reported to the Select Board after consultation with the DPW Director, Police and Fire Chiefs.

The short term plan the Committee will consider will include items such as: speed restrictions and or truck limitations along the causeway to be implemented as soon as possible. The Committee will also conduct outreach to nearby properties and to Mass DOT for design input.

The Committee will be made up of: one (1) Member of the Public Safety Committee (the DPW Director); the Town Manager; the Police Chief; the Fire Chief; and, one (1) member of the Public. The Committee will begin on 08/01/2023, with the dissolution of the Committee at the completion of the project upgrades.
