 UHELP Mission Statement

The mission of the UHELP (Uxbridge Hoarding Education Leadship Panel) is to provide a respectful, empathetic, and collaborative response to address matters of excessive clutter accumulation that have come to public attention in the community. Using evidence-based strategies, a coordinated response, and combining expertise from a multi-disciplinary interagency team, we strive to reduce excessively cluttered and unsafe home environments and provide support to community members and families struggling with and/or affected by hoarding disorder.  We are an organized group of professionals working together to maximize resources across our agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for those affected by this serious and complex mental health disorder. Fostering a shared decision-making process between cross-jurisdictional agencies and other local community stakeholders, we aspire to reduce the stigma related to this significant public health concern, provide holistic interventions, reduce recidivism, and improve hoarding disorder prevention measures.

UHELP Objectives

  1. Provide evidence-based public education about hoarding disorders, animal hoarding, and the public health and safety implications associated with the disorder.
  2. Give out information about available resources and assist with referrals as needed.
  3. Increase public awareness geared toward decreasing the stigma associated with hoarding behaviors.
  4. Provide support for individuals, families, and communities.

UHELP Goals

  1. Engage in continuous quality improvement practices that promote ongoing interagency collaboration and training opportunities to promote and maintain the most current evidence-based standards of practice when working with individuals with hoarding disorders.
  2. Increase access to community residents and family educational opportunities, resources, and referrals.
  3. Support the development of holistic, respectful, and collaborative responses related to individuals with complex mental health conditions and the associated public health and safety challenges.
