Linwood Street Area Drainage Improvements
Overview
The Department of Public Works began the design for the Rt. 122/North & South Main Street Reconstruction Project back in late 2007. The primary goal of the project is to reconstruct the roadway and sidewalks along the corridor, while include enhanced pedestrian and bicycle accommodations. This project will provide a safe and accessible pedestrian network by adding and repairing sidewalks, bring the roadway pavement to state of good repair, address drainage deficiencies, implement stormwater BMP’s to adapt to climate change/flooding, and update highway assets (signs, markings, guardrails, delineators). The project design was funded through the Town's Chapter 90 funding and construction is currently listed on the Central Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organizations Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) funding list. In late 2019, the Town Department of Public Works transferred financial responsibility for the completion of the Phase 2 design to MassDOT Highway Division District 3.
In 2015, MassDOT elected to split the project into two smaller projects based on funding limits. Phase 1 (Rt. 122/North Main Street) moved forward and is nearing construction completion. Phase 2 (Rt. 122/South Main Street/Millville Road) progressed from 75% design in early 2022. Construction is planned and funded under the 2024 TIP year funding.
